Sara Plana is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at MIT, focusing on the balancing act between military effectiveness and abuse of power. Her academic interests include structures of armed groups, security sector institutional relationships, civil conflict, and use of force.
Prior to MIT, Sara worked as a country analyst for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. She graduated magna cum laude with an AB in Government from Harvard University in 2012, where she was awarded the Thomas Hoopes Prize for outstanding scholarly work for her undergraduate thesis.
